North Dakota is located in the Midwestern and Western regions. It is bordered by South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana and Canada. It covers an area of 70,704 square miles with a population of 635, 867(as of 2006). Agriculture is the largest industry in North Dakota, along with petroleum and food processing. It is the largest producer of barley, sunflower seeds, spring, and durum wheat for processing. It is one of the largest producers of farm-raised turkeys. Coalmines generate 93% of the state’s electricity and the western part of that state is currently in an oil boom. It also produces wind energy.
