The state of Massachusetts is sandwiched in the middle of New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Over two-thirds of the state population (6.4 million) live in the Boston metropolitan area which is comprised of 4.4 million -- the fifth largest in the United States. Metro Boston is most famous for it's institutions of higher learning. It is home to the world renowned Havard University and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Other colleges and universities include Boston College, Boston University, and Radcliffe College. All total there are over 50 colleges and universities located in the Boston Metropolitan Area.
