U.S. and international corporations find Delaware to be a corporation-friendly state and it is home to 50% of all publicly traded companies in the U.S. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, as of 2005, the state of Delaware is home to 25,319 non-farm business locations with approximately 392,840 employees. There are also 52,314 non-employer establishments, which include small businesses, independent contractors and individual service providers, such as real estate agents. Delaware’s major industries include manufacturing, mining, fishing and agriculture; however, Delaware is in the midst of a cluster-based economic development strategy focusing on particular industries including automotive manufacturing, tourism, biotechnology and life sciences, chemistry and advanced materials and health sciences.
